FIRE

On Saturday, August 20, 2022, the community joined together with members of Borough Council and several local politicians to celebrate the Grand Opening, Housing and Dedication of Phoenixville Fire Department Station #65. The 26,000sf station provides 6 drive-through double bays, 10 bunk rooms, a 5,500sf training pad, a large multi-purpose space, and is home to Phoenixville's Fire, Rescue, Boat and EMS apparatus.

Housing Ceremonies have been part of the American Fire Service history dating as far back as the 1830's.

Whenever a new piece of fire apparatus was purchased, it was blessed before being placed into service. When apparatus arrived by cart or rail, the firefighters would meet it upon arrival, and parade it throughout the town.

Historically, fire apparatus was either hand or horse-drawn. Following the parade through town, the apparatus was then taken to the barn or fire shed, where it was "housed". As it was quite difficult for the horses to back apparatus into the barns or fire sheds, the horses were unhitched and the apparatus was pushed in by the firefighters.

On August 20, 2022, the apparatus were pushed in and out of the newly constructed fire station by members of local fire companies as a symbolic blessing over the apparatus, those that it will protect, and those it will serve.
The first push is for God.
The second push is for Country.
The third push is for Phoenixville Fire Company and Community.
