FIRE

Be Smart & Safe While Keeping Warm!

Heating equipment is the second leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries, and the third leading cause of home fire deaths.

Here are some tips to keep warm and safe:
• Keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from heating equipment, like the furnace, fireplace, wood stove, or portable space heater.
• Have a three foot “kid-free zone” around stoves, fireplaces and space heaters.
• Remember to turn portable heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed.
• Make sure you have smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms installed and operating - test them monthly!
• Never use an oven or stovetop to heat your home. If you need heating assistance, please contact the following resources:
- PECO Customer Assistance Program
- PA Heating Assistance
- Orion Communities
- Dial 2-1-1 (various health & human services resources)
For more information on heating safety, visit the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
