Phoenixville Fire Department

FIRE

Call For Volunteer Firefighters

The Phoenixville Fire Department is a combination agency comprised of 3 full-time employees, 18 part-time employees and over 30 active volunteers. This past summer the new fire station at 150 Paradise Street, near the Steelpointe neighborhood, was opened on August 20, 2022. This is a 26,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility with ample space for 24x7 operations and first responder training. This was a much needed project that was accomplished due to the hard work of many individuals and groups, most notably that of the Borough Council.

The new station houses a ladder, rescue, utility, command unit, two water rescue boats, two engines and two ambulances. An emergency management trailer is also kept at the station to support fire, EMS and law enforcement operations during major emergencies and community events.

With the support of Borough Council, a tractor-drawn aerial device was purchased to enhance the capabilities of the Department. This new ladder truck is part of a fleet consolidation plan that will see two vehicles combined into one to save money and to better handle fire emergencies. This will be the first new vehicle of its kind in several decades in Chester County when it arrives less than two years from now.

Volunteers are an essential piece of our response model in the Borough. While we have roles for operational and administrative roles, we are especially in need of individuals to serve as volunteer firefighters.

You can volunteer with the Department at the age of 16. While you are limited in certain duties, due do recent legislative changes those under the age of 18 can now complete the entire firefighting entry level program with parent/guardian permission.

We are also looking for those established able-bodied individuals in our community to serve as volunteer firefighters too. Our current mix of volunteers includes young adults, business professionals, business owners and retirees.

The Pennsylvania Entry Level Firefighter curriculum provided at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus is composed of four separate courses that together require 136 hours of both classroom and hands-on training. The training at times is rigorous and includes several days of live-smoke and live-fire training. Students must be in good physical condition in order tor to complete the class. This training is covered 100% by the Phoenixville Volunteer Firefighters Relief Association.

If you are interested in volunteering, please visit the Department website at www.PhoenixvilleFD.org or email Chief of Fire and Emergency Services Eamon Brazunas at ebrazunas@phoenixville.org.
