Infrastructure, Technology, Transportation, & Sustainability (ITTS) Committee 11/21/23

  • Infrastructure:
    • Video work completed for stormwater management
    • The Borough is looking for other firms to assist with the build of the Phoenix Wheel, as the current firm is no longer taking on work
  • Transportation:
    • Starr Street and Nutt Road intersection construction complete, punch-list items in progress
    • Borough has submitted a grant application for the remaining funding needed for Bridge Street and Starr Street construction
    • Phase I of the Paradise Street project has been completed; design of Phase II is completed
    • Mowere Road project expected to go out for bid in 2024
    • French Creek Trail easement agreements have been finalized
    • Grant application for train station funding has been submitted
  • Sustainability:
    • Borough will be submitting for DEP general permit for PXVNEO
    • PECO to provide meters for EV charging stations; once complete, Borough will have 46 EV charging stations within managed lots
    • Council approved funding for installation of solar panels at Borough Hall
  • Technology:
    • New system for Reporting a Concern will be implemented in 2024

Policy Committee 11/28/23

  • Discussion regarding Games of Chance
  • Discussion regarding Ordinance amending Chapter 10, Health and Safety, by adding a section pertaining to Plastics; motion to recommend Borough Council schedule and advertise the ordinance; motion approved
  • Discussion regarding eliminating hybrid meeting for all meetings with the exception of Borough Council
  • Next Meeting: 01/23/24

Finance Committee 11/28/23

  • Borough has received reimbursement of RACP funds for the Recreation Center ($1.5 million) and the Fire Station ($1.75 million)
  • Motion to recommend Borough Council approve the 2024 General Fund and Enterprise Funds Budget; motion approved

Important information about the new iPhone update:

If you have an iPhone and have completed the recent iOS 17 update, they have set a new feature called NameDrop defaulted to ON. This feature allows the sharing of your contact info just by bringing your phones close together. To shut this off go to Settings, General, AirDrop, Bringing Devices Together. Change to OFF.

PARENTS: Don't forget to change these settings after the update on your children's phones, also, to help keep them safe a well.

Phoenixville Fire Department

FIRE

  • U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average of 790 home structure fires per year that began with decorations, excluding Christmas trees. These fires caused an annual average of 4 civilian fire deaths, 33 civilian fire injuries and $14 million in direct property damage.
  • Electrical distribution or lighting equipment was involved in more than two in five home Christmas tree fires.
  • Nearly one in five Christmas tree fires were started by lamps or bulbs. Eight percent were started by candles.
  • Roughly two of every five home Christmas tree fires started in the living room.
  • Candle fires peak in December and January with 11 percent of candle fires in each of these months.
  • Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, followed by Christmas Day and Christmas Eve.
  • Year round, one-third (33%) of home decoration fires were started by candles. This jumped to almost half in December when candles started 46% of such fires. Cooking started one-fifth (19%) of decoration fires.
